This morning
when I opened my eyes
the sun had already risen.
Funny, I thought.
Squinted at the clock.
7:29
Nice, I thought.
Glanced at the baby girls
still sound asleep,
identical even in
their sleep positions.
Thank you, I thought.
I love sleeping in,
even though the
definition
has changed with
motherhood.
I’m glad you got to enjoy sleeping in- it is those little gifts from our little ones that make them even more lovable!

Sleeping in–7:30. That’s too funny. The definition of life changes with motherhood. I like the way the girls are identical in their sleeping positions.

Loved the structure of this poem. Really showed how you were thinking and feeling in the moment.

I love the simplicity of this piece. You could have easily drawn out this story to include your terrible night of sleep or your chaos that ensued a minute after you woke up, but the simplicity and super slice of life of this piece is so powerful!
